TRANSPORT - KLAGENFURT - AUSTRIA - WORTHERSEE STADIUM
May 6th, 2008
The transport concept of the host city Klagenfurt takes all possible situations into account and is prepared for the arrival of the fans. Everything is ready for fans coming by bus or car from the neighbouring countries, as well as for those who will arrive by air or rail. Sufficient parking has been created at the stadium, at Minimundus, Strandbad and in the eastern part of the city. Shuttle busses will take fans to the stadium and the fan zones.
A major traffic management system will be set up on the motorway run by the motorway operators ASFINAG.
Large-scale re-routing of traffic flows is being prepared.
Major traffic organisation measures are needed to facilitate access to the stadium for the security forces. Various options were tested on the occasion of international matches. A special clearway road is to be set up for ambulance services from the stadium, via Südring to Rosentalerstraße and the Ring, on to St. Veiterstraße and the regional hospital. It is planned to close one lane of these roads for this purpose.
The public transport offer will be increased during the time of the European Football Championship.
There will be more busses running at shorter intervals on the routes between train station and stadium, train station and fan camp/fan zone, and between airport and city centre.
