Nils Markus Rosenberg (born September 27, 1982 in Malmö) is a Swedish footballer. As of 6 June 2007, Rosenberg, who is nicknamed Mackan and Sillen, has played fifteen games and scored five times for the Swedish national team.

Markus Rosenberg Biography

Markus Rosenberg started his playing career at Malmö FF, but struggled to become a first-team regular and as a result joined Halmstads BK on loan in 2004. Playing at Halmstad he became the top goalscorer of the 2004 season. Back in Malmö, he also topped the Royal League 2004-05 scoring list.

Ajax

He joined Ajax Amsterdam at the start of the 2005/06 season for a fee of € 5,300,000. Manager Danny Blind showed his faith in Rosenberg by playing with him in the first eleven right away. Rosenberg started well, scoring at his debut against Brøndby IF in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, and scoring at his Eredivisie debut versus RBC Roosendaal. During the season his performances dropped, until Blind decided to play in a 4-4-2 system with Rosenberg and Angelos Charisteas as their strikers instead of the 4-3-3 system with Rosenberg as the only central striker that was played before.

Under the new system Ajax were still underachieving in that period and during the winter break Klaas Jan Huntelaar joined them for a € 9,000,000 fee. Rosenberg did no longer play as a central forward, but as a left winger in the 4-3-3 system they switched back to. The second half of the season playing in this line-up Ajax performed better and were able to reach the newly born Eredivisie play-offs a being ranked 5th in the regular competition. In these play-offs they beat Feyenoord Rotterdam and FC Groningen to claim a spot in the UEFA Champions League preliminaries for the following season. Ajax also won the KNVB Cup in that season.

Rosenberg was called up in the Swedish national team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but did not play any matches. When the 2006/07 season started he was no longer a regular first team player, but mostly used as a back-up for Huntelaar. He scored three goals in two UEFA Cup appearances versus IK Start, but could not take Huntelaar’s place as main striker under the new coach Henk ten Cate.

Werder Bremen

On January 26, 2007 He moved to German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen playing his first game two days later against Hannover 96. He scored his first goal for Werder Bremen against FC Bayern Munich, in a 1:1 draw.

Because of his aerial ability and his strength Markus Rosenberg is considered a dangerous header of the ball, but he is also dangerous when having the ball at his feet.

Christian “Chippen” Wilhelmsson (born December 8, 1979 in Malmö) is a professional football player who plays for Deportivo de La Coruña of the Spanish La Liga as a midfielder, and for the Swedish national team. He is known for his pace and dribbling abilities.

Christian Wilhelmsson Club career

Early career

Wilhelmsson started his career with Mjällby AIF in 1997 where he stayed for three seasons. In 2000, he played for Norwegian team Stabæk before joining Anderlecht in 2003.

FC Nantes

In 2006, Wilhelmsson moved to French side Nantes. He was commonly referred to as one of the team’s “unsung heroes”, due to his exciting, passionate, and explosive performances.

AS Roma

On January 10, 2007, Wilhelmsson joined A.S. Roma on loan until the end of the 06-07 season with an option to buy for €3 million. He made his Serie A debut on January 14 against Messina. Roma opted against making his transfer permanent, preferring to sign Mauro Esposito and Ludovic Giuly, and he returned to Nantes and started seeking a new club following their relegation from Ligue 1.

Bolton Wanderers

Following speculation about a move to the Premier League or the Scottish Premier League, Wilhelmsson signed for Bolton Wanderers F.C. on a 12-month loan, with an option to make the deal permanent after 20 games.

Deportivo La Coruña

After failing to impress Bolton manager Gary Megson, he was again loaned by Nantes, this time moving to Spain. He joined struggling Deportivo de La Coruña on the 30th January 2008. At Deportivo, he doned number 14, and played his first match against Getafe CF, coming on as a substitute. His full debut came in a match against Espanyol, in a 2-0 home win.

Established in the first eleven, Wilhelmsson scored his first Depor goal on March 1, 2008, in a 2-1 home win against Sevilla FC.

International career

Wilhelmsson represented Sweden at Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in every one of Sweden’s four games, either from the start or as a substitute. Manager Lars Lagerbäck said about him that “his game is suited to the big stage.” Leading Swedish midfielder Niclas Alexandersson also stated that, Wilhelmsson was “easily the fastest member of the squad.”

In September 2006, he was one of three players from the Swedish national team sent home, because they broke a curfew during a night out. The other two players were Olof Mellberg and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
